Easy, Low cost Halloween Craft Project–Recycled Bag Ghosts
Up to date on August 18, 2013 Jayme Kinsey extra Finances Friendly Holiday
Yearly at Halloween I problem myself to make a couple of new decorations which are as cheap as possible. These little bag ghosts are one among my favorite crafts to make. They can be used for a variety of decorative tasks after they’re made.
I came up with the thought one 12 months when a powerful wind carried away some rather pricey store-purchased ghost decorations. Fairly than return to the shop to buy extra, I determined to try to make my very own.
These ghosts aren’t solely a technique to recycle all those stored plastic procuring baggage, they’re so easy to try this I could make sufficient to cover the yard and house in a few hours. If they blow away, I am only out a bit of time and some fishing line.
I additionally prefer to make bigger ghosts from trash luggage. For those I use felt eyes, and some wire to hold the form of the arms. They’re great to hold in dim corners or from timber.
These mini-ghosts are very quick to make. In case you minimize the items first or supervise the use of scissors, even small children might help, making them a enjoyable, family craft.
Residence Crafted Decorations
Do you choose residence-made or retailer-bought vacation decorations?
Home-made all the best way!
Store-purchased items! They look nicer.
Whatever strikes my fancy at the time…
See outcomes Supplies
You most likely have all the basic supplies needed for these ghosts proper in your house. Utilizing felt or glue-on eyes is elective. You’ll be able to draw faces on with a permanent pen, or you may simply go away them plain.
Plastic buying baggage. One bag makes one huge and one little ghost.
Everlasting marker, felt, or wiggly eyes
fishing line, yarn or thread
Lengthy needle with a large eye
In the months before Halloween, cut all procuring bags when you deliver them residence and store the elements. If you find yourself ready to start out crafting, you will already have the pieces ready to begin.
Easy your bag out and minimize the handles away the place they meet the bag. Lay these to the facet.
Next lower around the bag near the seam. If potential, depart the seam connected to the printed facet of the bag.
Now you have your basic pieces. You can make these one at a time, or you’ll be able to minimize up several baggage and place the pieces in a basket. This venture is an effective way to keep your hands busy whereas watching television.
Wad the printed facet of the bag into a loose ball and place it in the midst of the un-printed piece.
In case you are apprehensive in regards to the print showing through, simply use two baggage relaxed t shirts to make the ghost and use solely un-printed pieces from the again of the bag.
Wrap the bag over the “head” of the ghost and give it somewhat twist on the neck. Tie the neck with one of many handles. You possibly can twist this piece first if you want it to be extra invisible.
Trim the ends of the tie close to the ghost’s neck. If you do not he will look more like an angel than a spook!
Lower a bit of fishing line, thread, or yarn the length you desire. I reduce mine in various lengths so that when the ghosts hang exterior they are at different levels.
Thread your hanger into the needle and go through the highest of the top. It helps right here to undergo a few of the stuffing as properly, to stop tearing later.
Draw your thread by way of and tie the ends collectively.
If you want to reinforce the top of the ghost’s head, add a small square of masking tape. While you thread via the masking tape and the plastic bag beneath, will probably be very durable.
Where To use Bag Ghosts
In trees and bushes
On party favors
On napkin rings
In home windows
Hanging from mild pulls
Suspended from ceilings or doorways
Take your helpful-dandy permanent pen and draw on a foolish face. Or glue on felt or plastic wiggle eyes. You may even leave the face blank if you want.
Search the web for inspiration and patterns for different ghostly expressions. A ghost household is not complete and not using a sad ghost, a contented ghost, a silly ghost, and an indignant ghost.
You’ll be able to look at old Halloween decorations for concepts too. Many static clings and cardboard occasion objects have ghosts with comical or “scary” expressions which are easy to draw.
For a fast porch or window decoration, hold a strand of green or white Christmas lights in a loopy configuration.
Hang a number of of your ghosts from the light strand. You possibly can add different decorations, resembling rubber bats, in between for somewhat selection.
Now you possibly can fringe the bottom of the ghost, or trim the “skirt” to be more even. As a result of the plastic is stiff, you’ll be able to form it close to the highest of the ghost in order that it appears to be like like he is flying or elevating his arms to scare somebody.
They won’t hold this shape outdoors by themselves, however you’ll be able to slip in some pipe-cleaners or twist-ties for a bit reinforcement in order for you ghosts which are extra dramatic.
Your big ghost is able to hang. Grasp them from trees outdoors, on fences, or along porches. You can even leave off the hangers and fix them to skewers for plant pokes to line driveways or flower beds. These also look nice peeking out of your flower pots.
But don’t cease there. Lets make those baby ghosts too!
Remember the spare handle we didn’t use? Now we will use it, as effectively as the ends we clipped from the large ghosts and the trimmings from the place we tidied up the ghost’s skirt.
Lay the handle flat, and stretch the plastic some. If there’s a middle seam here you can clip it and the handle ought to open out.
Take the remaining odds and ends and roll them into a ball. Drape the handle plastic over the ball and tie with a bit of thread. Trim the skirt and add a face identical to with the larger ghost.
You may add a hanger if you want, but I prefer stuffing these into small places such because the Halloween tree centerpiece or gluing them to Halloween wreaths. You’ll be able to have one popping out of an orange plastic Easter egg, or string a bunch together to make a garland.
They’re the perfect dimension to peek out of haunted house shows or peep over the top of flower pots. They are often glued to easy napkin rings for a occasion setting, too. Be artistic and take pleasure in!
